The Cheeky Lunar Surprise: When Playboy Met Apollo 12!

Hey there, space enthusiasts and lovers of all things quirky! Buckle up, because we’re about to embark on a journey that’s out of this world… literally!

Once upon a time, in the groovy year of 1969, Apollo 12 was gearing up for its monumental trip to the moon. Little did the crew know, they were in for a surprise that was, well, a tad more “earthly” than they expected.

Introducing DeDe Lind, the radiant Playboy Playmate of 1967. While she was turning heads down on Earth, a sneaky topless calendar shot of hers had hitched a ride on Apollo 12. And the best part? The astronauts were utterly clueless!

Now, picture this: you’re floating in the vastness of space, doing your astronaut thing, and you come across a picture cheekily labeled “Map of a Heavenly Body.” Nope, it wasn’t a celestial chart of the moon or a distant galaxy. It was our glamorous Miss November, striking a pose with a playful bow in her hair. Talk about a space-age surprise!

This interstellar prank was the brainchild of the playful Apollo 12 ground crew. They thought, “Why not sprinkle a bit of humor into this monumental mission?” And boy, did it deliver! This unexpected find went down in history as one of the most iconic space pranks ever.

Fast forward to 2011, and this “heavenly” image, slightly yellowed from age (and perhaps its cosmic journey), went under the auction hammer. And while we can’t time travel, the final bid soared to a whopping $21,451, truly out of this world!

For those pondering the state of this space-traveled souvenir, it was described as having “normal wear.” After all, it did complete a jaw-dropping 475,000-mile round trip to the moon 🌖 and back.

The fortunate highest bidder also received a sassy bonus: a signed photo from Miss Lind herself, humorously inscribed: “Pete and Al left me with a great Dick in lunar orbit!”.

So there you have it, folks! A blast from the past that reminds us that even in the serious world of space exploration, there’s always room for a little fun. Until our next cosmic tale, keep your eyes on the stars and your funny bone engaged!

Keep up, get in touch.
